Seamstress at The Women

Before coming to work here, I was at home taking care of my three young sons but my husband is a tuk tuk driver and we needed more income. So, my brother offered me the opportunity to come and work in his shop, even though I didn’t know how to sew. I only started one month ago so at the moment my tasks are mainly ironing and sewing small items such as scrunchies. The other seamstress here is teaching me how to use the sewing machine. Over the next six months I will learn new skills and techniques and finally be able to make dresses and shirts. For now, I really enjoy being here: I love admiring the clothes and their different styles.

With my husband we have big plans for the future: in two years’ time, once I’ve finished my training, we hope move back to our hometown, Donteav Village, near by Battambang, to open our own clothes shop.  We are concerned about our sons’ education: our dream is that they will become doctors and teachers and that’s why we are working quite hard.
